Mr. Larnell Baldwin, a Philadelphia native, started designing, sewing, and tailoring as a student at Overbrook High School. He graduated from the renowned Tracey Warner School of Fashion in 1978  and shortly after, began working at the Bleaker Street Design House as a pattern maker. Following that, he worked as a pattern grader for Queen Casual, a women's fashion conglomerate, and in 1981, returned to Tracey Warner where he began teaching tailoring and pattern making.

Mr. Baldwin is a Hall of Fame Member of the National Association of Fashion Accessories Designers (NAFAD). In 1986, he opened his own tailoring shop at 13th & Walnut in the Empire Building.  In 1988, he received the Award of Excellence in Menswear in Philadelphia Dress the World and moved to 4th Street in the heart of Fabric Row. 

By 2000, Mr. Baldwin was running his tailoring service and fabric shop and had started Baldwin's Fashion Institute and School of Tailoring, where he continues to teach today.

In May 2020, Mr. Baldwin’s front window on historic Fabric Row was smashed and some items were stolen.  His neighborhood and friends from across the world were able to raise over $30,000.00 in less than a week— a testament to Mr. Baldwin’s lasting legacy in his community.
